PokeMMO EV and IV Guide for Beginners [EV Farming Locations]

Welcome to the PokeMMO EV and IV guide for new players! We will go over what each of these do for your pokemon, provide the best EV farming spots!

What is EV?

Base points, also known as effort values (EVs), are values in Pokémon games that affect a Pokémon’s stats. These base points are gained when a Pokémon defeats another Pokémon in battle. As a result, trained Pokémon are more powerful than wild Pokémon of the same level.

Unlike IVs, EVs are under your control and can be obtained by defeating other Pokémon in battle.

At level 100, a Pokémon’s corresponding stat increases by 1 point for every 4 EVs gained. You can assign up to 252 EVs to a single stat and a total of 510 EVs to all stats. This means that when EV training a Pokémon, trainers typically concentrate on improving 2-3 specific stats.

To EV train a Pokémon, you simply battle Pokémon that provide the desired EVs. Each Pokémon species gives different EVs when defeated. You can check which EV a Pokémon gives in the Pokédex, making it easier to plan and enhance your Pokémon’s strengths.

You can also use vitamins (berry crafting in the Elite 4 Pokemon Center) to increase Pokemon EV (in stacks of 10):

  • HP – HP Up
  • Attack – Protein
  • Defense – Iron
  • Special Attack – Calcium
  • Special Defense – Zinc
  • Speed – Carbos

Also, if you want to get rid of undesirable EVs, you need to use specific berries to do that.

  • HP: Pomeg Berry (-10 HP EVs)
  • Atk: Kelpsy Berry (-10 Atk EVs)
  • Def: Qualot Berry (-10 Def EVs)
  • Sp Atk: Hondew Berry (-10 Sp Atk EVs)
  • Sp Def: Grepa Berry (-10 Sp Def EVs)
  • Speed: Tamato Berry (-10 Speed EVs)

EV Training VS Horde Pokemon Method

At the end game, you can quickly EV farming once you have the correct setup and levels. You can also check out the brief version of the locations here by Akshit (special thanks).

Also, it helps to have:

  • A pokemon (HM slave) that has Cut, Strength, Fly and Surf to get to places easily.
  • You need a strong AoE attacker (at least 3 in my opinion) to take down 5 pokemons (Surf, Discharge, Earthquake, Sludge Wave etc.)
  • Sweet scent move (with max PP) pokemon to get more encounters when used in the field.
  • Bring EXP share to help level weaker pokemon you want to EV train
  • Macho Brace for double EV growth at the cost of speed
  • (Optional) A catch pokemon with False Swipe, Spore or Thunder Wave etc. This is mostly for shiny if you encounter one.

What is IV?

Individual Values, or IVs, are values assigned to each Pokémon at birth that range from 0 to 31 for each stat (HP, Attack, Defense, Special Attack, Special Defense, and Speed). These IVs determine how powerful a Pokémon’s stats can be. They are set in stone and cannot be altered in any way.

A perfect IV is 31, indicating that the stat will be at its maximum value. The closer the IVs are to 31, the better the stats of the Pokémon. A Pokémon with a Speed IV of 31, for example, will be faster than a Pokémon with a Speed IV of 20.

Important: 31 is the best possible IV you can get, and the closer the IVs are to that number, the better the pokemon is.

However, not all EV’s are good for your pokemon. Mainly, you want to pay attention to your pokemon type. A Geodude who has better physical attack and defense stat who has a +31 EV to special attack isn’t going to be useful. You will want either physical or defense +31 EV for it to be worthwhile. So there is a bit of RNG involved when it comes to getting the desired EVs for your pokemon.

Breeding is a common method to try and get Pokémon with perfect IVs since it’s the only way to control the IVs your Pokémon will have.

There you have it. Hope this EV Farming Guide will help you farm it a lot faster!
